  • New driveway

    Dermot helped me to get a great deal for a new driveway in my home. I had been trying to organise it myself, but felt that I was being given the run around and the quotes I was getting from companies were huge. I felt like the men I was talking to were trying to dazzle me with technical language, and to be honest, I didn't really understand the different things they were talking about like grades of hard core and qualities of asphalt. Dermot helped me by researching the different aspects of getting the driveway done that I needed to think about. He explained the terms to me and their importance. He then called the various local suppliers, got quotes for the work and then negotiated to get me the best price for the job.
    It was such a relief being able to hand over all the stress of doing that ringing around. I hate making phone calls in general, and I'm not particularly confident trying to haggle for a price, especially with men.   • Mobile bill dispute

    "Our mobile company claimed we owed them a significant debt which Dermot was able to resolve in our favour. We had been trying to get our case reviewed properly for 18 months before Dermot offered to help.
    We believe we had been mis-sold 2 phone contracts and had refused to pay the final bill until the original sales call and notes were provided to us. Several customer service assistants and two managers promised this would happen but it never did. They also refused to log a complaint for us, instead raising an internal ‘case’ that went nowhere. We were extremely frustrated, tired and getting worried as we were threatened with legal action over the debt.
    Listening to Dermot on the phone with them was such a relief. He was able to calmly but firmly insist that they log a formal complaint and then told us how to deal with Comreg if needed. He didn’t let them fob him off, like they had to us every time, and he refused to end the call without a complaint reference number. His experience in the industry meant he knew exactly what to say to get them to follow the legal protocol they had been trying to sidestep with us.
    We did go to Comreg and within 2 weeks they found fully in our favour and the debt was wiped out, on the same day that the mobile company emailed to say that we still owed them!
    Finally having the issue resolved was a massive relief, and all down to how Dermot was able to deal with them. We highly recommend him to anyone frustrated with getting the runaround from companies who rely on us getting frustrated and giving in." Sinead, Wicklow
  • Buying my first car

    "I asked Dermot to help me to purchase my first car. I'm still a learner driver and quite naive when it comes to buying something as big and important like a car. Dermot first produced a spreadsheet template for me with the different things I needed to consider such as the year, model, whether the car was imported, engine size, NCT etc. He helped to show me how to weight these as some were more important than others. Then he looked up ads for cars on the various car sales websites and entered the details into the spreadsheet. The ones that came out with the top scores he then phoned the advertisers to ask about them. He went with me to view the top ones and did test drives with me as I'm not allowed to drive on my own on my learner permit. When I picked the car I wanted to purchase, Dermot then helped me to negotiate the price with the dealer. He also talked me through all the steps and told me what to expect to get the logbook changed into my name and how to get insurance for the car.
